Project
Retrofitted 3 x Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) Plants
Sector
Environmental Infrastructure
Discipline
Structural Steel Erection, HV Electrical & Mechanical, Piping Systems, Testing & Commissioning
Client
Hongkong Electric

The contract was awarded to MYC Engineering, as the main contractor. Retrofitted 3 x large-scale Flue Gas Desulphurization (FGD) plants to the two existing 350MW coal-fired generating Units L4 & L5 and one existing 250MW coal-fired generating Unit L2 in Lamma power plants for reducing sulphur dioxide (SO2) emission which were in support of the Government’s policy objective to improve the air quality of the Pearl River Delta.

Scope of Works:
  1. Steel fabrication, field erection of structural steelwork and flue gas ducts;
  2. E&M, piping systems and equipment installation works;
  3. Inspection, testing, commissioning, performance tests of these FGD plants and associated common facilities.
Adopted an innovative “top-down” construction method to build the steel absorber/scrubber of 12.5m in diameter and over 30m height in order to solve the extremely congested site constraint, which was among the most congested power plants in terms of space in the Asia Pacific.

In addition, it was well executed in heavy lifting with a combination of using a tower crane together with a deployment of a 500-tonne mobile hydraulic crane for lifting the major components (eg, over 22 tonne) of the Gas-Gas- Heater over 55 meters to the top of each absorber. This was carried out one-by-one over an operating power generation unit in Lamma Island.

Hong Kong Sludge Treatment Facilities [T · PARK]
Sector
Environmental Infrastructure
Discipline
Process Water Treatment Plant
Waste Water Treatment Plant and Seawater In-take
Deodorisation System
Client
Veolia, Leighton, John Holland JV

The Hong Kong Sludge Treatment Facility (HKSTF) is one of the world's largest sludge incineration facilities. HKSTF is equipped with the state-of-the-art thermal incineration technology to treat a maximum of 2,000 tonnes of wet sludge per day.

   Scope of Works
  1. Installation of Process Water Treatment Plant including the seawater desalination plant, which produces process water;
  2. Installation of Waste Water Treatment Plant. Wastewater is treated and reused to achieve zero effluent discharge into the sea; and
  3. Installation of Deodorization System which is used to ensure the air emission meets the highest environmental requirements and stringent emission standards.
Project
Major MHS Plant Refurbishment / Modernisation
Sector
Energy & Power
Discipline
Steel Fabrication, E&M installation, Supply of Components and PLC System
Client
Castle Peak Power Company

The contract was awarded to MYC Engineering, as the main contractor, which included the provision of project management, workforce, engineering personnel to undertake design, dismantling, fabrication, E&M installation, upgrade, supply of components and T&C activities.

Scope of Works
  1. Complete refurbishment of 41 coal handling conveyors incl. all line accessories such as vibrating screens, magnetic separators, junction houses, at Castle Peak Power Station;
  2. Electrical distributions, transfer chutes, transfer towers, and dust suppressions and vacuum systems; and
  3. Plant controls, automation of bunkering system, pull wire switch monitoring system, etc.
